Mississippi Interactive Video Network - Overview
The MS Interactive Video Network (MIVN) grew from the Mississippi Fibernet 2000 Network, which began in 1991, and the Star Schools Network, started in 1995 and presently has over 200 K-12 and higher education classrooms. The video network is bi-directional and links schools and resource centers using specially modified phone lines. It allows for full interactive two-way video, audio, and data communications to be shared among the participants. Schools no longer need to be limited by geographic constraints in offering classes. Students at one site can fully participate in a class originating hundreds of miles away.

High school courses, university credit courses, staff in-service, enrichment activities, and special events are all available on the network. MIVN is an example of the utilization of technology as a powerful instrument that assists educators in offering new opportunities to all students, regardless of economic status or location. Connections with other interactive video networks within the state, such as the Community College Network or the Institutions of Higher Learning Network, as well as with other states and countries, are all managed from the statewide control center housed at MPB.
