Dozens More Mississippi Soldiers Head to Kuwait
40 more Mississippi soldiers were deployed this week. They will join About 4,000 other Mississippi troops presently serving in Iraq and other war torn areas. MPB's Lawayne childrey reports on their latest mission.
Over the next year members of the 210th Financial Management Company will be responsible for conducting military pay operations in Kuwait. Mississippi's Adjutant General Major William Freeman calls the mission significant.
“These soldiers actually take care of the pay for our soldiers in their area of operation in Iraq and Kuwait. If you’ve ever missed a paycheck you know what kind of financial burden that puts on those families. So these guys will ensure that our guys are paid in a timely manner and that families backs home are of course taken care of.”
This is Sergeant Arthur McLaurin's 2nd deployment to Kuwait. He is with the 210th Financial Management Company. His job to make sure that soldiers and their money are managed well. One way is to maintain a cash less battle field.
“We don’t want our terrorist to get hold of that money. When we send money out to pay contracts, to pay soldiers whatever, however minute that transaction is we want to be able to trace it electronically.”
The jobs being executed by members of the 210th may be miles away from the fighting front line.
But they still face the dangers of war. Nancy Morgan of Bruce says her son is well trained but she still has concerns.
“’Cause he’s gone be on the road a lot. But I’m glad he’s going for the United States and I support him in it. But I’ll still miss him and pray he gets back.”
Freeman predicts by the end of summer nearly 4,200 Mississippi soldiers will be serving . For MPB News, I’m Lawayne Childrey.
