Outdoors with Bobby Cleveland

Ready to go fishing? Bring MPB Think Radio along for the ride!

Legendary sportsman Bobby Cleveland brings the outdoors to MPB Think Radio every Saturday morning in "Outdoors with Bobby Cleveland". With his trandmark folksy style, sportsmen can depend on an entertaining hour of interviews, comments, and more. Each week, Bobby will bring listeners the latest news from their favorite fishing holes, tips on what's in season, and reports from the hiking trails.

Bobby Cleveland brings 30 years of experience covering outdoor sports to Mississippi Public Broadcasting for a new weekly Saturday morning program that targets hunting, fishing, camping and more.

Born and raised in Hattiesburg, Cleveland began his long newspaper career with the Hattiesburg American, where he first wrote about Mississippians enjoying their outdoor pursuits.

He moved to Jackson in 1983 to work for The Clarion-Ledger, as an award-winning sports page designer and copy editor. He became the Outdoors Editor in 1985 and held that position until accepting an early buyout option in 2012.

Cleveland, 58, traveled the state fishing and hunting, and his stories and commentaries earned numerous writing awards. He became the recognized voice of Mississippi sportsmen, and his folksy and often quirky style captured non-sporting readers as readily as it did serious outdoorsmen and women.
Now that voice and experience comes to MPB.

“There is no better radio platform with which to reach listeners in Mississippi than MPB,” Cleveland said. “The statewide coverage is unmatched, and there’s no corner in the state where outdoor sports is not a big tradition, bordering on religion.

“By airing early on Saturday morning, we will be able to give sportsmen the latest news, tips and reports as they head to their favorite fishing holes, hunting camps or hiking/biking trails. It’s a great opportunity.”
