“Between the Lions” lands Emmy® Award |
|
(Jackson, Miss.) - “Between the Lions” national children’s television show co-produced by Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) captured the Emmy® Award for Outstanding Writing in a Children’s Series at the 35th Annual Daytime Creative Arts & Entertainment Emmy® Awards held June 13 at Lincoln Center in New York City.
“Between the Lions,” a PBS KIDS® series, is a collaborative effort of Mississippi Public Broadcasting, WGBH-TV Boston and Sirius Thinking Ltd of New York. Developed in consultation with the nation’s top reading and literacy experts, the series presents a comprehensive approach to reading instruction.
Ann Copland, MPB Deputy Executive Director and Executive Producer for “Between the Lions,” comments, “’Between the Lions’ is clever, smart, entertaining and produced at the studios of Mississippi Public Broadcasting. We are thrilled that this very seriously researched and produced literacy program earned the accolades of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.”
The program showcases the power and pleasure of reading and includes segments that foster language development and early literacy skills. Each episode addresses the five key areas of reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and text comprehension.
“Between the Lions” is funded in part by The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Education’s Ready To Learn grant, and by the Barksdale Reading Institute. National corporate funding is provided by Chick-fil-A, Inc.
