MPB TV looks beyond shadow of depression |
|
(Jackson, Miss.) - Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) will air “Depression: A Relatively Speaking Special” Wednesday, May 21 at 8:30 p.m. immediately following the national documentary “Depression: Out of the Shadows” at 7 p.m.
“Depression: Out of the Shadows” is a PBS documentary telling the dramatic stories of people of different ages and diverse backgrounds who live with various forms of clinical depression. The program also explores the causes and treatments of this disease.
MPB’s “Depression: A Relatively Speaking Special” gives Mississippians the opportunity to ask questions during a live audience and call-in show.
Online visitors can log onto www.mpbonline.org at 8:30 p.m. to email questions, view the live stream of “Depression: A Relatively Speaking Special” and participate in an online chat.
Gene Edwards and Dr. Greg Gordon, who both regularly host MPB Radio’s “Relatively Speaking” on Monday mornings, welcome Dr. Criss Lott and Dr. Shambhaui Chandraiah. Dr. Lott is a clinical psychologist with St. Dominic Behavioral Health Associates and Dr. Chandraiah is the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s (UMC) specialist on women’s mental health issues. Dr. Gordon is assistant professor of psychiatry at UMC.
“At MPB we continue our tradition of community service by offering crucial, current information for Mississippians. We hope this special regarding clinical depression helps to create a more open dialogue about depression and helps to reduce the social stigma that prevents many people from seeking professional help,” says Jay Woods, MPB Deputy Executive Director in charge of content.
