New Literacy Website for Young Kids |
|
(Jackson, Miss.) - Parents, teachers and caregivers of children two to eight years old can help teach their child to read with an exciting new interactive website featuring stories, games, songs, and more. The PBS KIDSâRaising Readers website, www.readytolearnreading.org, provides materials, tips, and activities to make reading fun and an easy part of everyday life. It offers practical ideas on how to raise young children with literacy skills beyond just reading a book.
Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) is partnering with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) to provide resources for teaching young children reading skills through everyday activities. The PBS KIDSâ Raising Readers website, www.readytolearnreading.org, is just one of a series of initiatives designed to give Mississippi children the tools they need to learn to read before they ever start school.
“MPB was thrilled to be selected as one of the first five PBS affiliate stations in the nation to offer PBS KIDSâ Raising Readers programs statewide. We know that these resources promote the increased literacy skills needed to be successful in kindergarten and beyond,” said Nikki K. McCelleis, director of MPB Educational Services.
Included under the PBS KIDSâ Raising Readers umbrella are two interactive literacy-oriented television series for preschoolers, Super Why! and WordWord; new web content from Sesame Street and Between the Lions; and a literacy website featuring content from each of the series. Between the Lions is co-produced by WGBH-Boston, Sirius Thinking, Ltd, New York, and Mississippi Public Broadcasting, in the Jackson, Mississippi studios of MPB. |
