Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) and the Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center hosted the
Eyes on the Prize: Mississippi Reflects Community Forum, a free reception and panel discussion for the public at the Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center in Jackson on Tuesday, September 26th.
The panel discussion of the
Eyes on the Prize: Mississippi Reflects Community Forum was taped LIVE and airs following the final episode of Eyes on the Prize on MPB,
October 16th at 10:00 p.m.
During the community event, all eyes were on Mississippi's past, present and future, as we came together to focus on the beginning of the civil rights movement and beyond. As a springboard to discussion, audience members viewed portions of the first episode of the PBS groundbreaking series, Eyes on the Prize, which rebroadcast in October for the first time since 1993. Members of the audience had the opportunity to ask panel members questions.
Panelists included former Mississippi Governor William Winter, Constance Slaughter Harvey, Gene Young, Leslie McLemore, the Rev. Ed King, and Hollis Watkins. Forum moderator was Owen Brooks, researcher and historian for the Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center.
