A recent court ruling means Mississippi Power Company's 2 point 8 billion dollar Kemper County power plant is one step closer to having legal approval. MPB's Daniel Cherry reports, a south Mississippi judge has denied a challenge of the project.

Mississippi's junior senator says the fiscal cliff could badly hurt the state's economy.

Some Mississippi labor groups are now giving their support to a 2 point 8 billion dollar power plant under construction in Kemper County. MPB's Daniel Cherry reports, the groups' support comes after the company agreed to hire Mississippi union workers.

"In essence you've got state agencies that have approximately 3,000 PINS that have been authorized by the legislature in which there are no people that have been hired and in fact they've been unfilled for more than 60 days." 

" All we wanna do is get a modification where we can be able to pay and not struggle when his hours decrease and get the finances reduced. That's all we wanted to do is save our home."

Mississippi's economy is recovering, but outside factors could reverse that trend.

Thousands of Mississippi shoppers are already hitting stores across the state looking for the best deals of the season.

"Lack of money, just even things  like postage money and money to record liens and stuff because of the budget cut backs and everything over the last years have delayed us from getting the notices out  more quickly.

Opponents of the Kemper County power plant say the project is behind schedule and costing Mississippi Power's ratepayers millions of dollars.
