More than 1,400 full-time National Guard employees across Mississippi will begin furloughs as a result of federal sequestration. The furloughs are to begin July 8th and continue to the beginning of the new fiscal year on October1st. Maj. From his office in Jackson today, Gen. Augustus Collins, adjutant general of the Mississippi National Guard said the cuts will occur across the board.
"We have individuals working administration here in this building, we have folks working on the flight line at the 122nd here in Jackson and also the 186th in Meridian and the air guard, we have individuals working in our shops, our maintenance shops down at Camp Shelby and Camp McCain as well as our aviation flight facilities around the state," said Collins.
The furloughs also will affect civilian employees at military bases across Mississippi, including hundreds of Navy employees at Ingalls Shipbuilding and those at Keesler Air Force Base.
