MDOC to keep 4 community work centers open

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Christopher B. Epps says four community work centers slated to close in about a month will remain open.

Epps says continuing to operate Bolivar County Community Work Center in Rosedale, Yazoo County Community Work Center in Yazoo City, Jefferson County Community Work Center in Fayette and George County Community Work Center in Lucedale after July 15 is in the best interest of MDOC and the communities they serve.

The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/14HukSw ) saving money and a shortage of minimum custody inmates eligible to work in the community work centers were the primary reasons for closing the four out of 17 community work centers. The decision was announced in April.
