Mississippians have set a new state record for the amount of money they have donated to a Republican presidential campaign. MPB's Jeffrey Hess reports that party leaders believe that is a sign of strong enthusiasm among republicans.

Mississippians have donated more than 3-million dollars to Mitt Romney's presidential campaign....topping the 2.5 million donated four years ago.

Brandon Payne, the Mississippi Republican party executive director, says that is proof that residents in the state are rallying around their nominee.

"In addition to that, it shows that Mississippians are willing to put their money where their mouth is, so to speak. And to support our candidates in what I truly believe is going to be one of the most important elections, not only in my life time, but in our country's history," Payne said.

Romney and President Barack Obama will have the second of three debates tomorrow night.

Payne thinks Romney will be able to build on momentum he gained from what he says was a strong first debate.
