A major Mississippi-based bank is setting aside $500 million dollars intended to help grow businesses in the state.

Bancorp South announced the 'Grow Mississippi' loan program this morning.

Bancorp South CEO Dan Rollins the loan fund is a sign that the state economy is poised to growth.

“I think there are a lot of business people today that have capitol and have good ideas and have good thoughts and they are ready to do something. They are wondering ‘is the economy ready for us to go’. And I think our answer is the economy is ready. It is time for us to start making investments here in our state,” Rollins said.

Rollins says they intend to lend all the money by the end of the year.

The bank will work with the Mississippi Development Authority to find businesses that need the additional cash.
